- explore what makes the messages compelling for the target audiences;
- measure the effectiveness of specific and thematic Russian propaganda messages;
- find out what social groups are especially vulnerable to Russian propaganda;
- examine the mindset of those vulnerable groups;
- produce effective strategies of influencing opinion of these groups with counter-propaganda messages.
This project will utilize both qualitative and quantitative research methods, combining content analysis of the Russian propaganda disseminated through multiple social and mass media sources targeting Russian-speakers in the selected countries (conducted by IISEPS) while measuring its effectiveness in shaping attitudes by conducting focus groups and surveys of Russian speakers in those countries (conducted by Gallup Surveys network) in these countries. UT research team will develop a set of 10 questions related to the topics of interest and based on the results of monitoring of Russian propaganda.
MDF’s Task: Monitoring/content analysis of four Russian-language local news media in Georgia: pro-Russian Information agencies Sputnik-Georgia and Sakinformi, newspaper Georgia and the World, as well as relatively neutral Web portal SovaNews.
