Disarming Disinformation

Donor: Scripps Howard Fund, International Center for Journalists

Budget: 4000 USD

Duration: 7 July, 2023 - 30 June, 2024

The Disarming Disinformation project aims to strengthen societal and institutional resilience to disinformation networks and actors.

The project awards 20 grants (five in each of the four target regions) in the amount of USD 2,000 each to support grantees in developing, organizing and executing their own training. Training for trainers (TOT) will be run by MediaWise, in collaboration with local partners from each of the target regions: Africa Check (Africa), FactCrescendo (Asia), Fatabyyano (MENA) and Media Development Foundation (Europe).

Media Development Foundation's scope of work includes providing training for trainers that focuses on deepening participants’ technical expertise in areas such as the use of fact-checking and verification tools, as well as audience engagement and training. MDF will also follow up with grantees to help them prepare their local training plans and submit them to MediaWise to review and implement their training in 2024 and document it.

Disarming Disinformation is run by ICFJ with lead funding from the Scripps Howard Fund. The three-year project will empower journalists and journalism students to fight disinformation.
