Self-regulation

Pursuant to Article 14 of the Law of Georgia on Broadcasting and the Code of Conduct of Broadcasters adopted by the Georgian National Communication Commission (GNCC) in 2009, broadcasters are obliged to establish an efficient complains mechanism for considering customers’ complaints.

If  a broadcaster breaches the Code of Conduct, apply to us through filling out a provided questionnaire and the Media Development Foundation, MDF will present your complaint in a broadcaster's self-regulation body.

Conflict Coverage by Georgian Media

Media Development Foundation, MDFpublishes new monitoring results on the theme ofConflict Coverage by Georgian Media. Media monitoring was implemented within the frames of the project –Media Monitoring – for Professional Mediasupported byOpen Society – Georgia Foundation, OSGF. The research main target of which were the events developed concerning Georgian separatist regions was carried on during one month in spring, 2012. This period was selected specially because it coincided with the de-facto, so called presidential and parliamentary elections in Abkhazia.

TV as well as printed media means had been selected as the subjects of the monitoring. Namely, the prime time TV stories of five TV channels:Public Broadcasting Television, Rustavi 2, Imedia, KavkasiaandMaestrohad been analyzed. The articles of the weekly newspapers –Kviris Palitra, Asaval-DasavaliandQronikawere the subjects of printed media observation. The quantitative and conceptual components had been emphasized within the frames of the monitoring. Namely, special attention was paid to the frequency and diversity, as well as to differences and convergence of conflict themes coverage identified through comparing the informational means. The tone of coverage and the component of informational sources and objectivity had been also evaluated.
