Media Development Foundation, MDF Statement

During last days Georgian televisions are permanently airing some of the materials downloaded from new media means in the form of audio and video records of private conversations of the political coalition leaders and other public persons. Despite of possible existence of high public interest towards these records editorials are obliged to air the materials of such type with more careful and sensible approach. In addition: the editorials should get rid of airing any kind of direct, outstanding and technically unedited sections of offensive terminology and is obliged to use practiced editorial methods, moreover when there is no need to operatively air such kind of materials;

Media should pay particular attention and think about the results of spreading materials that may contain the threat for violation of persons honor and dignity; Moreover, editorials should refrain from airing of such parts of materials that are announcing physical and external characteristics as disease, and what is more important, naming an immoral actions of relatives as a reason.

We believe that in this situation the role of media is very important and media shares the responsibility for using offensive or any other kind of insulting expressions and firming of negative stereotypes .
