121 Georgian non-governmental and media organizations continue their legal battle against the "Russian law”, for which we will appeal to the Constitutional Court. Along with the lawsuit, as a temporary measure until the court makes a final decision, we also demand to suspend the implementation of the unconstitutional provisions of the law.
The constitutional lawsuit once again makes it clear that this law violates the right of every person to associate with like-minded people for the common good and to help other people. By adopting the "Russian law”, the authorities are creating a hostile and degrading environment, declaring as a threat the enjoyment of the right to association, expression and other rights and freedoms.
We welcome the decision of the President of Georgia and parliamentarians to also appeal the mentioned law in relation to Article 78 of the Constitution, which is the main cornerstone of Georgia's membership in the Euro-Atlantic structures.
We hope that the Constitutional Court will exercise its authority as soon as possible and suspend the operation of the relevant provisions of this law. In addition, we inform you that we are preparing a complaint to submit to the European Court of Human Rights.
We repeat once again that we will not live by the rules of the "Russian law”, we will not comply with it, and we will use all possible domestic and international mechanisms to impede its operation until the law is unconditionally repealed.
Yes – to Europe! No – to the "Russian law”!
